Operation Finale
The 1960 Mossad capture of Adolf Eichmann in Argentina
Overview
Operation Finale seized Adolf Eichmann, the logistical organizer of the Holocaust, from a Buenos Aires suburb in May 1960. Agents confirmed his identity, captured him on his way home from work, held him in a safe house, and flew him to Israel aboard an El Al flight while he was drugged and dressed as a crew member. His 1961 trial in Jerusalem, with testimony from survivors, brought the mechanics of the genocide before a worldwide audience. Eichmann was executed in 1962.
